Points to Remember to be Safe in the Philippines

Today, a news channel wouldn’t be complete without a crime reported. Truly, the danger is everywhere. Robbery, murder, scams, and such occur on a regular basis. Keep safe, especially when in Metro Manila with these few points to remember.

BE CAUTIOUS OF STRANGERS

Even though Filipinos are crowned as friendly creatures, they typically do not go out of their way just to have a conversation with a total stranger. So if you ever happen to come across any stranger, just be very careful. If there are people in near you, for example, a woman, who would approach and ask for a few peso so they could go home to a province somewhere far, it is better to walk away as fast as you can than to give and meet her again a few kilometers from where you first met.

HIDE YOUR VALUABLES

If you are carrying an expensive item in a crowded area, put them away in a strong, plain-looking bag and avoid using your phone in public transportation and in busy places. Don’t let anyone notice your presence, and be sure you don’t look so interesting in other’s eyes.

BRING ONLY WHAT IS NEEDED

Backpacks are a hassle to carry. Aside from giving you a hard and heavy time, they would also look interested in it because basically, big bags carry large valuables. Instead of using backpacks, you can opt for a smaller bag where you can put just the relevant ones.

DEPOSIT AND WITHDRAW MONEY FROM A SAFE PLACE

Most Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are wide open, where criminals can easily peek through the monitor and the pins. If you ever need to use one, be sure to withdraw on a daytime, on weekdays, and with the presence of a security guard nearby so that if something happens, you can get help as soon as it should arrive. If you are going to withdraw a large amount, it is better to choose over-the-counter transactions for safety purposes.
